FNA LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS UPDATE
The 2010 Florida Legislators are preparing for this years legislative session, and several key pieces of Legislation affecting Nurses are to be considered.
This year the Florida Legislators are to consider:
--A bill would provide to Advanced Pracitce Nurses the ability to prescribe controlled substances. (Florida is one of only two states that do not give ARNP's this ability)
--A nurse staffing bill. This bill would require each care facility to develop a staffing committee composed primarily of staff nurses. This staffing committee would develop staffing patterns for each unit in the care facility.
--A bill is being developed that would correct problems in HB1986. This bill prevents healthcare providers from carrying a license in the state of Florida if they have been convicted of any felony in the last 15 years.
